What Does MyAirbags Do?

MyAirbags helps people repair vehicles after they have been in an accident. Instead of requiring customers to buy expensive new safety components, we repair and restore many of the original parts, helping them save money while getting their vehicles safely back on the road. Our customers include collision repair shops, auto dealerships, insurance professionals, salvage rebuilders, body shops, mechanics, and individual vehicle owners.

What We Repair

We specialize in repairing and restoring important vehicle safety system (SRS) components, including:

  • Airbag control modules
  • Seat belts and seat belt pretensioners
  • Active head restraints
  • Battery pyro-fuses
  • Collapsible steering columns
  • Active hood actuators
  • Other post-collision safety components

These are critical parts that often need attention after a vehicle has been involved in an accident.

Airbag module resets: After a crash, the airbag computer locks itself and stores fault codes — customers can’t just clear the light themselves, and dealers usually push a full replacement. We reprogram the existing module back to factory condition instead, which is the pitch: same safety performance, a fraction of the dealer price.

Seat belt repair: When airbags deploy, the seat belts usually lock up too — the pretensioners fire and the retractor won’t feed webbing anymore. We rebuild the internal mechanism (pretensioner, retractor, buckle) with OEM parts instead of making the customer buy a whole new belt assembly.

Custom color seatbelts: This one isn’t a repair — it’s an upsell for people doing an interior build or restoration who want their seat belts to match their paint, wheels, or theme. We swap in new webbing in one of 65+ colors, so it’s a good add-on to mention to any customer who’s clearly modifying their car, not just fixing it.

Seat belt webbing replacement: This is the fix for a belt that’s just physically worn out, frayed, or torn — the buckle and retractor are fine, only the strap itself needs replacing. It’s easy to bundle with the custom color offer, since we’re already pulling the webbing out either way.

Collapsible steering columns: These columns are built to compress in a crash to protect the driver, and that action trips a sensor that a dealer will usually tell you means the whole column is junk. Most of the time it’s just that one sensor — we repair the sensor instead of the whole column, which is the cost story you’d tell a customer facing a big dealer quote.

Buckle repair: This is specifically the female end of the belt — the part you click into — when it’s jamming, not latching, or not releasing. Customers often assume a sticky buckle means a new seat belt, so this is a smaller, cheaper fix worth mentioning before they go buy a full replacement.

Battery terminal/fuse repair: Cars have a pyro-fuse on the battery cable that intentionally blows during a crash to cut power and prevent electrical fires — it’s a safety feature, not damage from the accident itself. Once it’s blown, the car won’t have power until that terminal is repaired or replaced, so this is often a hidden line item on post-accident rebuilds that customers don’t realize they need until the car won’t start.

How Our Process Works

Our process is simple:

  1. The customer places an order online.
  2. They remove the damaged part from their vehicle and ship it to us.
  3. Our technicians inspect, repair, reset, and thoroughly test the part.
  4. The repaired part is shipped back to the customer, ready to be reinstalled.

Most repairs are completed within one business day, allowing customers to get their vehicles back on the road as quickly as possible.

The Role of SRS Repair in a Post-Collision Rebuild

A vehicle’s Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) — airbags, seat belts, pretensioners, the airbag control module, and related sensors and connectors — works together to protect occupants in a crash. When a collision occurs, several of these components activate or record fault data: the airbag control module stores crash data and often triggers a warning light, seat belt pretensioners may fire and lock the retractor, battery pyro-fuses can blow to cut power in a crash, and collapsible steering column sensors or active headrests may need attention. None of this necessarily means every component has to be replaced.

Dealerships and default repair paths often default to full replacement of these parts, which can add hundreds or thousands of dollars to a rebuild and introduce delays waiting on new OEM inventory. In many cases, however, the underlying hardware is intact and only needs to be reset, rebuilt, or have a specific failed component addressed — the airbag control module reset, for example, simply clears the stored crash data and restores functionality without requiring a new unit.

Repairing and resetting SRS components instead of replacing them is often faster and significantly more cost-effective. For used car dealers, salvage rebuilders, body shops, and fleet operators processing post-collision vehicles, this approach can save up to 80% per vehicle compared to new OEM parts, while maintaining the same safety standards. That directly protects rebuild margins, shortens the path from acquisition to resale, and keeps vehicles compliant and safe for the next owner — without the unnecessary cost of full replacement.
